People in Asia were discriminated against as ethnic minorities in the United States as the American illiteracy test was conducted. They were restricted from dwellings and limited to choosing careers. The white people tried to regard other races as inferior beings and tried to oppress them. Under these oppressive conditions, Asian American writers wrote stories about discrimination and alienation from white mainstream society based on their experiences. Asian American writers suffered much confusion due to differences in the cultures of their native countries and American culture, especially in the United States, where they were born and raised.
